Delivering Faster, Affordable, and Sustainable Housing Solutions
What We Do
We are addressing the supply chain challenges of the fast-growing mass timber market through a decentralised micro-plant network and an integrated design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) approach. We provide a vertically integrated solution that enables community builders to deliver homes that are sustainable and affordable. This proactive approach brings together leading mass timber industry expertise working together to accelerate schedules, without sacrificing precision and quality to meet the housing demand across North America.
Why It Matters
Economical Impact
A DfMA approach creates local jobs and accelerates schedules while reducing on-site changes, leading to reduced costs
Environmental Impact
Low embodied carbon compared to conventional and less waste while assembling healthier living spaces
Social Impact
Participatory design processes that will empower communities to be actively involved in developing regional bioeconomies
Knowledge Sharing
Cross facility network sharing, as well as research of process, product and material development with universities, colleges and regional authorities
Micro-Plant Network
A micro-plant is CLT Centre’s licensed mass timber building system fabrication facility, equipped with integrated templates for multiple housing typologies. This system fabricates the building super-structure, which can be flat-packed and delivered for rapid on-site installation.
Micro-plants can be established in standard industrial buildings with specific span and height requirements, and commissioned in under a year. This model provides builders and developers with a fast investment-to-revenue pathway and a streamlined solution for integrating mass timber into residential housing.
Product Platform
CLT Centre is continuously developing products that can be fabricated through our network of micro-plants. We have developed a platform of optimized building typologies suited to our DfMA approach.
Applications
6-12 storey mid-rise housing, student accommodation and hotels.
Principle
Smart customizable repetition—based on the Identical Grid Design Principle, which reduces waste and accelerates project delivery
Use
These typologies provide fast feasibility, cost and schedule modeling that can be adapted to specific sites and client needs
Development Advisory
The Mass Timber Development Advisory (MTDA) is CLT Centre’s consultancy division helping developers, design teams and authorities de-risk, reduce costs and accelerate approvals and timelines through a participatory and inclusive process. Our role is simple: ensure your mass timber project is set up for success from day one.
We combine technical expertise with practical construction insights to reduce errors, provide greater cost and scheduling certainty. Services include concept design leveraging our growing product platform catalogue, design optimization, fabrication costing services for your mass timber projects through our network of micro-plants across North America.
THREE PROFILES OF ENGAGEMENT
CONCEPT
Early-stage feasibility studies and project development. We analyze your site and concept to determine the viability of mass timber or hybrid solutions, including preliminary costing, logistics, and construction reviews.
ADAPT
Optimizing existing designs for DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly), ensuring compliance, improving efficiency, and providing greater cost certainty. We help transform steel or concrete concepts into mass timber-ready solutions.
AUDIT
Independent peer review of your project design and execution. Our experts identify risks, review engineering strategies, and provide recommendations to ensure project success.
ABOUT
